The Ultimate Brow Lamination Guide

Brow laminations have quickly become one of the most popular beauty services, and we love them here at PLA as well!

Since we offer an entire range of brow lamination products, we also wanted to provide a detailed guide on how to use them. Keep reading to learn how to use the PLA Brow Lamination Kit to offer the best high-quality professional brow laminations to your clients!

What Is Brow Lamination?

To put it simply, a brow lamination involves moving the individual brow hairs into a neat shape and can help the brows appear fluffier and fuller. This is achieved by using several products that break down bonds in the hairs and then rebuild them once they have been manipulated into place.

How Long Does Brow Lamination Last?

Brow laminations are perfect for anyone wanting to simplify their everyday routine! Once laminated, the eyebrows can be brushed into place and will remain in place until brushed again. They last about 4-6 weeks, and sometimes up to 8 weeks with proper aftercare!

A Step-by-Step Guide To Use Our Brow Lamination Kits

Pre-Service

Here are a few steps we recommend performing before starting the actual brow lamination service.

Patch Test

About 48-72 hours before the brow lamination, you should administer a patch test. This will ensure that your client will not react to the products!

Apply a small amount of all the products that will be used behind the ear or in the crook of the arm and leave for 10 minutes.

Brow Hair Assessment

Make sure to assess the eyebrow hairs in order to determine the correct processing time (how long to leave the products on).

Fine hair - 5 minutes

Medium hair - 6 minutes

Thick hair - 7 minutes

Very thick or coarse hair - 8 minutes

Cleanse

All traces of makeup should be removed from the brow area with a makeup remover. Then you can go in with a brow cleanser to further prep the area. Make sure to rinse off all products and dry the area completely!

Lamination Service

Once your client is cleansed and prepped, the lamination can begin!

Step 1: Lifting Cream

Use a mascara wand to comb all the brow hairs of both eyebrows into place. Then dispense half the sachet of PLA Lifting Cream into a PLA Lift and Lam Palette.

Starting at the thickest part of the brow, use an applicator to quickly apply the Lifting Cream to the base of the hairs. This helps protect the inner and outer corners from processing too long. Then brush through the hairs with a mascara wand. This will break down the disulphide bonds in the eyebrow hairs, allowing you to brush them into place. Make sure to remove any excess product from the skin!

Start your timer and repeat the process on the second brow.

If possible, right before the timer goes off, check the thickest hairs to make sure they are flexible. Once the time is up, immediately remove the Lifting Cream from the brow to prevent over-processing and/or dehydration. Finally, repeat on the second brow!

Step 2: Neutralizing Lotion

Dispense half the sachet of PLA Neutralizing Lotion into a Lift and Lam Palette

Starting at the inner corner of the brow, use a fresh applicator to apply the Neutralizing Lotion to the entire brow. Now you are rebuilding those bonds mentioned above so the eyebrow hairs will stay in the desired shape. Remove any excess product from the skin.

Then, start your timer and repeat on the second brow! The processing time should be the same as in Step 1.

When your time is up, completely remove the Neutralizing Lotion from the brow to prevent dehydration and repeat on the second brow.

Step 3: Hydrating Serum

If no tint is required, all you have to do now is apply the PLA Hydrating Serum to the brows with a clean applicator. No need to remove this!

Brow Lamination Aftercare

The lamination might be over but the work isn’t done yet! Make sure to educate the client about the best ways to take care of their freshly laminated brows. Many of these tips are to help your client keep the Hydrating Serum on for about 24 hours.

  • Avoid water and shampoo for 24 hours
  • Avoid makeup for 24 hours
  • Avoid rubbing or touching the eyebrows for 24 hours
  • Avoid direct sunlight, sunbeds, saunas, steam rooms, or swimming pools for 24 hours
  • Avoid waxing for 24 hours
  • Use castor oil to moisturize every night
